Librarian helps students in the library

ATTENTION: The Library now allows shelf-browsing and self-selection of books.

Please follow the steps below to help everyone remain safe.

  • Sanitise your hands before you start browsing – there are hand sanitiser points around the Library.

  • You must wear a face covering, unless exempt, stay socially distanced and adhere to other University-wide guidance while browsing.

  • Allow plenty of time to select your books, as you may have to wait to access a shelf run.

  • If you pick up a book and decide not to borrow it, do not replace it on the shelf. Instead, leave it in the closest drop box or on any shelf near the self service machines and staff will quarantine them for you.

  • Do not remove books from the drop boxes, we are still quarantining any handled books for 72 hours to help minimise the risk of virus transmission.

  • Use the equipment provided to sanitise the self-service machines before use.

The Library will still be offering Click and Collect, but there may be a delay in accessing items as there are likely to be more books in quarantine.  Details for how to make a ‘Click and Collect’ request can be found here

If you place holds for the Click and Collect service please don’t come to the Library self-select the same items, you’ll receive an email once staff have located your items and they are ready to be issued.

While we make every effort to ensure these web pages are up to date and reflect the latest policies and guidelines, we cannot guarantee this. We apologise for any inconvenience or confusion caused and would ask that if you are unsure of anything that you contact in the first instance. Thank you for your understanding.

Visiting the Library

To ensure the library environment is as safe as possible we’ve made some changes to the way the service is run.

  • On-site staff will be limited, so our enquiries service will be virtual.
  • Please be respectful of other users and stay socially distanced.
  • There is a returns box in the Library foyer if you want to return items outside library opening.
  • All returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours.
  • You must wear a face covering while moving around the Library.
  • Additional hand sanitisation points have been installed around the Library.
  • If you or any members of your household have symptoms of COVID-19 or you are in a period of self-isolation do not come to the Library.
